It’s the Woodstock generation’s mantra that has been passed down to the festival junkies of the 21st century. It may seem like a bunch of hippie hullabaloo, but what if the concept of good vibes could actually change your life?
No, you don’t have to live out of an old 70s van, dreadlock your hair or smoke every day to make it happen. However, you might just want to do so. It turns out the concept of good vibes actually has a scientific and philosophic background.
It’s basically a modern way of explaining the law of attraction, a philosophical movement that dates back to 1901. The law of attraction states, in simple terms, that the energy you put into the universe will dictate the world around you.
So, in theory, if you simply think positive thoughts and send positive vibes out into the universe, your life will be better.
It may sound like a bunch of flower-child nonsense, but think about it: How many times have you stubbed your toe getting out of bed, or spilled your coffee in the morning and had your whole day go downhill from there? It’s the law of attraction.
If you wake up and c**py things are already happening to you, you’re more likely to be angry about everything as you move forward with your day.
As you stub your toe or spill your coffee, you’re sending negative energy out into the universe. After that, the universe will respond to your negative energy with more negativity.
So, you might be asking, where’s the science?
How on earth can we be expected to believe that we can control the world around us simply with our thoughts? Attraction.
This is where science meets philosophy. Every thought that’s ever crossed your mind has its own wavelength. If you’re thinking, “OMG, I really want pizza right now,” that thought has a different pattern than“Zac Efron is so hot; I literally can’t even.”
Depending on the frequency of thoughts you put out, the universe will give you an answer, like two magnets slowly growing closer and closer. Your thoughts and your energy will attract the kind of world in which you will live.
It’s important to be aware of your state of mind when it comes to the law of attraction. Obviously, you don’t need me to tell you that you feel differently when you’re ecstatic than you do when in despair. They key is to maintain a positive state of mind.
When you have a brighter outlook on life and your future, it only makes sense that a bright future will follow. If it still seems like a bit much, here’s how to make the law of attraction work for you in five simple steps:
1. Know what you want
Be confident in what you want to ask the universe to give you; make sure you want it with your whole heart and soul.
2. Ask the universe
Visualize what you want as if it’s already yours, and imagine sending a mental picture of it out into the universe. The more detailed, the better.
3. Be confident
Imagine how you’ll feel once you’re rewarded with your wish. Keep a positive state of mind and imagine that you already have it. The stronger your faith, the quicker your reward will come to you.
4. Be grateful
Thank the universe for all of the wonderful things you’ve received in your life thus far. This will increase your positive state of mind and send more good vibes out into the universe.
If your wish doesn’t appear right away and all you can think about is not getting it, you won’t attract it. The universe doesn’t care if your thoughts are positive or negative. Remember Henry Ford’s thought: “Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.” Be patient and know that your wish will be granted.
It only sounds ridiculous because we’re used to thinking of ourselves as separate entities from Earth. Sure, we live here, but we think we’re just here to live our lives, make our marks and use the Earth as we please. But, that’s a different argument for a different article on a different day.
In reality, our worlds are so much stronger. We are living with the Earth, and if we can learn how to do it properly, we can make our lives whatever we want them to be. Not bad for a hippie lifestyle, huh?
