1. To scale your business
Possibly the best reason to outsource is because it allows you to scale your business. One person running a business and doing all the work is limited by the number of hours in a day. However, if the same person outsources some of the work, they’ve instantly raised their possible profit ceiling as the hours available for work go up. This kind of outsourcing also frees up the original business person to take on other tasks such as planning how to expand the business even more.
This is an example of how outsourcing can be used to scale a business which would otherwise have a limited profit.
2. To free up your time
If you find that you’re the person who does everything in the business, then it’s not a business – it’s a lifestyle. Outsource means you can free up your time so that you can focus on how to build your business and make the next step. It’s hard to do that when you’re trying to do everything.
3. It’s not as expensive as you might think
It’s possible to outsource projects for less than you think. There are lots of useful websites if you want small bits such as website banners, intro videos and logos made for your business. There are a lot of great deals around. Alternatively work with a company like Designated where relationships are key and have access to a whole suite of support services.
Some websites like Upwork allow you to outsource and post a ‘job’ and then freelancers will bid or pitch in order to win the work. A word of warning, don’t be tempted to go for the person offering to do the job at the lowest price unless you really think they can deliver. It’s better to pay more for outsourcing and get something that’s really good quality than pay less and end up having to outsource the project again.
One of the hardest things to let go of and outsource is your paperwork and admin. Many busy individuals, founders and entrepreneurs find themselves working late until midnight to deal with their admin. When Designated go to new business meetings, we often find clients find it hard to delegate and ‘off-load’. Many find it difficult to immediately put trust into someone else, to believe we can help and hence relieve the pressure.
We ask our clients, “How much business can you build up in one afternoon?” “How much is YOUR time worth per hour”.
Once they have taken this on board, they realise that we can free up their time. We have been told that our clients feel instant relief that they have some free time to concentrate on their core business and not sweat the small stuff!
4. To make use of specialist skills
Outsourcing is the perfect way to bring new skills to your business. Perhaps you only need a web designer for one project. If you outsource, you can get what you need done without having to hire an employee or take lots of time trying to do it yourself.
