Copywriting is written content conveyed through online media, in particular business blogs. It is primarily used in marketing to increase traffic and leads. Unlike a simple blog post, a good copywriter will both educate and persuade the reader that their product/service is a MUST have!
I’m well aware of the powerful benefits copywriting holds. In fact, we have more than doubled our traffic and leads since we started our small business blog! I’ll admit, at first it was a nerve wracking experience taking on the voice of a brand, but with perseverance and adhering to some simple tips, the rewards speak for themselves.
But how difficult and time consuming can it be?
In this post, I’m going to offer you some simple copywriting tips that we have used to GREAT effect in our digital marketing. These are all TRIED & TESTED!
Use A Formula
For example, I regularly use the APP method which is Agree, Promise and Preview. This means that in the first paragraph of my blog post, I will initially run through the basics for my topic, and try to do it in such a way that the reader can AGREE with my point of view. For example;
‘ I’m sure we can all agree that creating a Twitter account for our business is highly beneficial, yet managing it incredibly time consuming’
This will show readers that I understand the topic and issues involved. I then deliver the promise;
‘But did you know with a few simple tricks you can schedule your tweets in mass and all in under 30 minutes?’
Finally, we finish with the preview;
‘In this post I am going to show you how you can DOUBLE your traffic and all in under 30 minutes a day!’
Use Benefits In Subheadings
As all of you Yoast users know, it’s incredibly difficult to pass the SEO green light on yoast WITHOUT subheadings. Subheadings break up lengthy articles and can lower your bounce rate. The trick is to use BENEFITS within your subheading. For example, look at the difference between the 2 sub headings below based on the terms ‘Traffic’;
Increasing your traffic by 50%!
I know which sub heading catches MY eye! what about you?
Break Up Content With Bucket Brigades
Bucket brigades are phrases or words that help to break up lengthy content AND entice readers to finish the entire article, increasing your ‘time on page’ metric. Below are a few examples of how you can use them to break up paragraphs and keep your readers hooked!
‘But it just get’s better/worse!’
‘You won’t believe what happened next!
‘But HOW did this increase my traffic by 50%?’
‘But do you want to know the best part?’
So now, you should have a better understanding of the importance of creating unique, highly engaging copy. But what happens if you just don’t have the time for it?
